It’s said that retirement isn’t an end, but rather a phase of invisibility with intention.

As many in the workforce eagerly anticipate retirement, recent trends reveal that a quarter of U.S. adults expect to never retire. With over 4.5 million people turning 65 in 2026, experts in psychology and aging delve into the reasons behind this phenomenon.

Turning 65 means you have several years before you start thinking of yourself as entering the later parts of your life. But those years aren’t reserved exclusively for fishing, golf or learning to play the guitar.

In fact, studies show that the healthiest and happiest seniors are those who actively share their accumulated knowledge and experiences, feeling valued and respected in the process. After decades dedicated to a specific profession, many individuals equate their self-worth with their career.

Retirement is often avoided due to a combination of financial considerations and personal fulfillment. Many people continue working because their careers provide a profound sense of purpose, social interaction, and the mental stimulation necessary to maintain cognitive sharpness.

For some, the joy of their work is simply too great to give up and the allure of business ownership and continuous innovation surpasses the appeal of traditional leisure activities.

Having just earned my septuagenarian status, this topic holds great personal significance for me. I am committed to continuing to “share my brain” and assist companies in navigating their challenges and guiding individuals toward fulfilling and happy lives.
